We have over 50 years of plumbing expertise and specialise in a variety of boiler services, from routine maintenance to complex repairs and heat pump installations.
Boilers are a vital component of every home to provide heating and hot water. Most boilers in UK homes are ageing and inefficient, leading to uncomfortable temperatures and costly energy bills.
Signs that you need a new boiler include:
- Radiators take longer to heat up
- Unusual noises, such as banging, tapping, clicking, or knocking
- Yellow flame
- Unusual smell
- Rising energy bills
- Reduced pressure
- Frequent breakdowns
- Boiler keeps shutting off
Our clients often upgrade to a modern boiler to improve their home’s heating and safety, as well as reduce energy bills and increase their home’s value.

How much do our boiler repairs, services and replacements cost?
The cost of our boiler services will vary greatly depending on the type of work needing to be carried out, as well as the type of boiler and size of the home.
Boiler repairs can vary from £120 – £800 depending on the repair needed and the type of boiler. A Combination boiler is usually cheaper to repair than a system boiler due to the complexity of the pipework and availability of parts.
A boiler’s yearly service will cost around £70–£90 which includes cleaning the boiler, flue, oil burner, and nozzle, replacing the oil filter, inspecting the fuel tank, and performing a combustion test.
Boiler replacement will vary depending on the type of boiler you would like in your home.
A regular boiler will cost between £600 and £3,500 to install.
A system boiler can cost between £1,500 and £4,000 including installation.
A combination boiler will cost between £500 and £3,000 to replace.

How to choose the right boiler for your home
Our Gas Safe registered engineers know extensively about the latest boiler technologies and models. We’ll advise you on the best new boiler for your property’s unique needs and heating demands. Looking at your home’s size, bathroom count, and hot water usage patterns will help us recommend the optimal boiler type for you. We will also consider the following:
- Number of occupants.
- Boiler’s energy efficiency.
- Current fuel type and availability.
- The current heating system and the type of boiler you want to install.
- Budget
There are a few main types of boilers we offer to customers in Peterborough and the Midlands:
Regular boilers heat and store water in a cylinder for on-demand hot water access. This provides a reliable supply of hot water for households with high demand. The stored hot water lasts longer than combi boilers. These boilers are ideal for busy family homes with multiple bathrooms. They ensure a constant supply of heat and hot water.
Combination or combi boilers heat water directly when you turn on the tap, eliminating the need for a storage cylinder. This saves space but may lead to limited hot water flow at times of high use. Combi boilers work well for properties with 1 or 2 bathrooms. These boilers are ideal in homes with little space, where a water tank cannot be stored. These boilers might not be the most suitable for busy homes, as hot water is not stored so not as readily available as a regular boiler. This is the cheapest of the boiler options but does not provide constant heat or hot water.
System boilers also provide central heating and hot water without needing a water storage tank like regular boilers. This makes them a space-saving option. System boilers have components that allow more pressure for improved water flow at busy times. These boilers are ideal for busy family homes with reduced space as they are more compact than regular boilers. Although combi boilers are cheaper to run, a system boiler may actually end up cheaper if you use more hot water regularly since it has a storage tank.
If you are looking for a more eco-friendly, renewable way to heat your home, we also offer Heat pump installation. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a grant which may be available to you, to cover part of the cost of upgrading your system to a heat pump or a biomass boiler. The scheme provides up to £7,500 to encourage property owners to replace existing fossil fuel heating with more efficient, low carbon heating systems including heat pumps and biomass boilers. According to the Energy Saving Trust, an air source heat pump could save a household between £55 and £310 per year compared to an old gas boiler, so although this is a large initial investment, it would save you more over time.

Boiler installation FAQ’s
Can any plumber install a boiler?
Plumbers work on heating systems, including radiators and pipework, but not all of them are qualified to work on the boiler itself or the gas pipe. At CTE, our plumbers are trained as Gas Safe engineers so are equipped to complete any scope of plumbing work including boiler installation and repairs. We go the extra mile to ensure excellence for our customers, including investing in our team’s qualifications.
What is the best type of boiler for my home?
Regular boiler | Most suitable for busy family homes with storage space for a water tank. |
Combi boiler | Most suitable for smaller, less busy homes with limited space for a water tank. |
System boiler | Most suitable for busy family homes with no space for a water tank. |
If you are unsure of what type of boiler will be best suited to you and your home, get in touch with one of our engineers and they can talk you through all of the options.
Should I swap my boiler for a heat pump?
If your home currently has a conventional boiler, installing a heat pump could help you become more energy efficient and save you money.
A heat pump works by extracting heat from an outside source, such as the air, ground, or water, and transferring it to your home. Heat pumps are 3 times more effective than gas boilers and use significantly less electricity making them less costly to run.
Although the installation of a heat pump system is more expensive than that of a boiler, a heat pump could cost you £350–£425 per year on heating bills in a four-bedroom detached home.
