In today’s world, businesses have a dual responsibility to protect what matters most, and tread lighter on the planet. Commercial properties, whether offices, retail spaces or remote sites, are under increasing pressure to stay secure while also meeting sustainability goals. From safeguarding staff and valuable equipment to reducing operational costs, it’s never been more important to strike a balance between safety and environmental impact.

At CTE Services, we understand both sides of the coin. With over a decade of experience delivering reliable security systems and cutting-edge renewable solutions across Peterborough and the Midlands, we’re proud to offer our clients a more sustainable way to stay secure. In this article, we’ll show you exactly how to optimise your business’s security while reducing your carbon footprint, and why now is the time to act.

Why Security and Sustainability Should Go Hand in Hand

Every business has a duty of care to staff, clients, and assets. But today’s businesses also face growing expectations to minimise their environmental impact. According to the UK Government, commercial and industrial buildings account for roughly 18% of total carbon emissions nationwide. As a result, more companies are committing to net-zero goals and reviewing their carbon footprint as part of day-to-day operations.

What’s clear is that sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s an urgent priority. From government regulations to customer expectations, businesses are under increasing pressure to go green. But the good news? This shift creates an opportunity to reassess and upgrade legacy systems, including security, with smarter, energy-efficient alternatives that benefit your bottom line and the planet.

How to Optimise Your Business’s Security and Cut Carbon Emissions

At CTE Services, we specialise in designing tailored solutions that integrate state-of-the-art security systems with eco-conscious energy use. Whether you run a business in Peterborough, operate from a rural site in Rutland, or manage a commercial property in Cambridge, we have the tools and expertise to help you future-proof your premises.

Here are just a few of the energy-saving security solutions we offer:

  • Low-voltage automated gates with power-saving standby modes
  • Battery-operated access systems, such as HKC keypads and fob readers
  • Wireless, self-powered safety photocells to eliminate energy waste
  • Smart CCTV systems with motion-triggered recording and remote access
  • Hybrid alarm systems that combine wired reliability with wireless flexibility

These systems are not only secure and robust, they’re also designed to be efficient, especially in areas with limited power supply. As an NICEIC-certified company with CHAS and SMAS accreditations, our installations always meet the highest safety and environmental standards.

Our Recent Sustainable Security Work

One of our recent projects perfectly captures our commitment to security and sustainability. This wasn’t your average gate automation job; there was no power supply on site. Our challenge? To provide a secure, efficient solution that would hold up through the winter.

Working closely with our trusted supplier, we engineered a low-voltage gate system with a built-in low-power standby mode. We paired it with an HKC keypad and fob reader, which operates entirely on its own internal battery, with no need for continuous power from the gate itself. This preserved valuable battery life and ensured reliable local access all year round. To boost safety, we added wireless photocells, also battery-powered, that detect obstacles and prevent accidental closures.

By working closely with the Mitsubishi technical department, we even managed to reduce flow temperatures, helping to cut the customer’s long-term energy costs, making it smart, secure and sustainable.
